Corruption

Corruption kills like venomous snakes,

Especially when there are enormous stakes,

It spreads from me to you like a deadly infection,

Seems good, but has a deathly complexion,

Corruption arises from our insatiable greed,

And advances at an unstoppable speed,

The corrupt are busy most in darkness,

To make it easy to avoid any ghost in witness,

Corruption is like a weed in a field of millet,

A different breed of trees in a thicket,

It happens right in front of our eyes,

But we lack the might to confront its lies,

Corruption is a snake we raise among us,

It takes our praise and grows strong for us,

We hate it by night and tolerate it by day,

We despise bribe recipients, but we willingly pay,

Corruption grows stubbornly like a hyacinth,

It stings back like walking through a thorny labyrinth,

It is embraced by the high and mighty,

Excessive power makes our leaders flighty,

Corruption abhors equality and development,

It promotes theft, extortion, and embezzlement,

If unchecked, corruption grows steadily like fungus,

And spreads everywhere in the society like a compass,
